2016 Fall Newsletter

This fall newsletter is just to bring everyone “up to date” with what the association has done this summer. There was a meeting on August 6 held at the dam. The purpose was to discuss work/repairs needed to be done. There is erosion happening on the 400′ concrete wall between the “spillway” and the “outlet”. This is the major reason for raising funds  to do the repairs needed. All dues paid, all money raised by the picnic and any other donations given are used toward keeping the dam in good repair.

At the picnic, we raised $1807.00 after expenses. The picnic was well attended and it is a great way to meet/get reacquainted with other “pond people” in addition to raising money toward our goal of keeping the dam in good repair. There have been several new property owners  to the pond and it was really nice to meet them. Also several nice pans and serving ware were left at my house after the picnic. If you are missing items like that, you are welcome to call me to come and pick them up.

The culverts that were voted on at the annual meeting have been installed  by Roland Nadeau. The amount of the bill was $824.80 which  was less than the amount we had authorized. That is always nice. At the August 6 meeting at the dam, it was decided that the area behind the concrete wall needed to be mowed. The members there authorized $150.00 for that work and it was done by Brad Nikel.

We have collected $3375.00 in dues so far this year. We thank all who have contributed.  Please remember that all the money the association raises is  put  toward dam repairs that will be needed in the near future. It would seem that for “less than $1 a week, looking out your window and seeing the water lower by 14 feet wouldn’t be worth the savings”. If we lose the dam, we can’t even count on being able to replace it given current EPA/DEP rules. Even if we could get approval for repairs, the cost would  be beyond our ability to raise enough money,  so the old saying ” a stitch in time” might really apply here.

Have a good winter, remember “The Kenny King Annual Ice Fishing Derby” held on Presidents Day Weekend in February. If you have never been here for that, come and see how much fun Wadleigh Pond is even in the winter. Fishing is free for everyone in Maine that weekend. BYOB and a dish to share.
