The map (below) of Roberts Pond (provided by Frank Dworak) was created before the dam was constructed, around 1850. Note that there is no Wadleigh Pond on the map. It appears that Roberts pond was about the size of Tar Water Pond or a little less than a quarter the size of Barkers Pond.” This is what we could expect to see if there was no dam in place.

August 28, 1970
A letter was sent out by C.E. Grover to the property owners of Wadleigh Pond, stating that the dam was in need of repairs. Attempts were made to get the State of Maine and the Town of Lyman interested in helping.
They both suggested that a Pond Association should be formed.
Mr. Grover asked for a commitment from the property owners to form an association with annual dues by enclosing an inquiry. The response was very favorable.
September 22, 1970
Another letter was sent out by C.E. Grover stating that 16 property owners responded to his previous letter. He stated that the selectman of Lyman will not provide any money or support for repairs of the dam and that Mrs. Frank Chappell was contacted about the needed repairs because of the slow response of forming an association.
September 26, 1970
A meeting of 16 property owners was held at the dam site including Mr. Irving Chappell and Mr. Norman Chappell 9 sons of the late Frank Chappell) who are the present owners of the dam.
The Chappell’s urged a formation of a Pond Association and led the way by paying $5.00 for each membership to get the association started. All property owners present contributed equal amounts for a total of $90.00.
October 11, 1970
An organizational meeting was held for the purpose of forming an association on Wadleigh Pond. It was motioned and seconded that the Wadleigh Pond Association would be formed and the officers eleclted.
President- Clarence Grover ; Vice-President-George Curran; Treasurer-Russell Elliott; Secretary- Jeanne Dulong. Also elected were section leaders: Elmer Andrews, Edward Kelly, Albert Parenteau, Mrs. Alfred Chasse, Dave Dulong , Delbert Hatch.
By-Laws were read and accepted.
November 8, 1970
Mr. DesRoberts contacted the Chappells concerning the dam. He stated that the dam would have to be registered with the State of Maine in August before the Association should attempt to take the dam over.
Mr. George Curran reported that he had contacted a lawyer and that the lawyer advised us to incorporate the Wadleigh Pond Association. It was motioned and seconded to form a corporation.
September 12, 1971
Papers were signed by the officers to start the process of incorporating the Association.
July 1974
A motion was made that if we incorporate that we assume control of the dam. The vote was unanimous that we would take control of the dam.
Sept 6, 1975
Mr. Hansen reported that The Wadleigh Pond Association was now legally incorporated.
