WPA Meeting Concerning Dam Repairs

On Sunday, October 1st, there was a meeting at the Wadleigh Pond Dam regarding the work needed to be done on the concrete face of the dam. There has been quite a bit of erosion and it badly needs refacing and “shoring up”. The dam was originally built in the 1800s and “rebuilt” in the 1930s. In 2008, a new “spillway” was constructed to ease “overtopping” of the dam in years with a high amount of rainfall.

There were 24 Association members in attendance. After much discussion and inspection, it was decided by a majority vote to hire a contractor to do the work. This would include a 6″ facing and a 4″ cap. But, even before work can be done, a permit will need to be obtained.

This could be a long process, but began with a meeting held by MEMA at the Lyman Fire Station and attended by some members of the Association to review an Emergency Action Plan. There will be more meetings and will involve a number of agencies tasked with overseeing the Maine waterways. It is expected that we can get a permit by spring/summer of 2018.
